Giving respect in English

We were having dinner at a restaurant. Shankar told the waiter who came with the finger bowl "we are not yet done eating. You can give it to him" pointing to his father. Srishti told, "appa, you must give respect when telling about your appa." Shankar replied, "Srishti, in English there is no way to show respect that will replace the word 'him'. How else do you think I could have showed respect." Srishti responded immediately, "you must say, give it to HIS HIGHNESS." !!!!!

Chennai Bus Trip

Image
What do we do when there is a child (Shreyas) who is obsessed with road, maps and bus travel? We decided that we will go on a one day bus trip within Chennai. The plan was to go on an ad hoc route. That is to say that there was actually no plan. We just wanted to keep moving from one bus to the other - no pre-planned routes. We left home at 6.30 AM and returned home at 7.30 PM. It was one of the most memorable trips we had. Nothing to worry. No need to hurry or catch up with any timings. Just be relaxed, stay cool and enjoy the day. Here, is a report by Srishti. Here is the map drawn by Shreyas and coloured by Srishti.  This is the map that we plotted on Google maps to track our bus trip.
